"Reconquista"

CNC (Cosa Nostra Collective) & Lorenzo Swinton Gallery presents “RECONQUISTA” showing from May 2, 2024 through June 1, 2024 at the innovative art space in the heart of downtown Clarksville, TN. The exhibition aims to explore the multi-dimensional characteristics and influences of the Spanish language on global culture. Multiple creatives have come together to bring the viewer their own perspective with pieces that delve into how the Spanish language shapes cultural identities while fostering a sense of belonging among 600 million Spanish speakers worldwide today.

By incorporating themes and influences gathered from early literature, curator Jay Sanchez finds deep inspiration from some of the earliest documents written in Spanish literature. Cartularies of Valpuesta and the poem Cantar de mio Cid are believed to be medieval literature written between the 9th and 12th century, as first written in inspiration from the Romance language. These documents and poem are historically known as some of the most important pieces of literature in the Spanish language.

RECONQUISTA intends to celebrate all Spanish speakers and its vast range of palettes painted by the many nations and cultures worldwide. Through art, we intend in using this international language to invite everyone to sit at the table. The exhibit aims to celebrate all the rich cultures that are brought together by this language while exploring the brilliance, richness, and radiance the Spanish speaking community holds internationally. It also serves as a platform to create greater awareness to our contributions in society, culture, art, and politics in America today.
