We are pleased to announce an upcoming Senior Art Exhibition by our very own Gallery Assistant Lizzie Mahaffey titled “The Weight of Being”

“The Weight of Being is a dualistic exploration of identity through an immersive installation that juxtaposes a vibrant and playful living space, inspired by Memphis Design and Wacky Post Modernism, with a poignant representation of child loss and grief in a contemplative space. By employing a diverse range of mediums including metal, acrylic, digital paintings, and crumbs, Mahaffey invite viewers to engage with the complexities of life. This exhibition serves as a metaphor for not only her identity, but also the duality of sorrow and joy.

Encouraging dialogue and reflection on functional design, emotional resilience, and the shared experience of navigating grief. Through hidden motifs and interactive elements, Mahaffey will transform profound experiences into vibrant expressions, fostering a space for understanding and connection amidst the complexities of life.”

We invite you to this opening reception Monday, November 17th at Austin Peay State University’s Barbara Beach Gallery located at the APSU Art & Design. “The Weight of Being will be available for viewing through November 21st.
